Our Story
A proven track-record
KCC’s combination carrier concept builds on an 80-year legacy of innovation and customer-focused service within the Torvald Klaveness group.
The first-generation CABU vessels, delivered from 2001, evolved from Klaveness’ earlier PROBO (product-bulk carrier) ships, which had reliably served the Australian alumina industry since the late 1980s. The second-generation CABUs, delivered between 2016 and 2017, increased cargo capacity from 72 000 to 80 000 DWT. Designed for efficient switching between dry and wet cargoes with minimal downtime, the CABUs have completed over 700 consecutive switches with only a single wet cargo claim; a record that demonstrates the safety, flexibility, and resilience of the concept.
Between 2019 and 2021, KCC further expanded the model with the launch of the CLEANBU series. These next-generation vessels opened new markets in clean petroleum products, while retaining the versatility to carry dry bulk cargoes. The CLEANBUs have enabled KCC to enter additional trade routes, serve a broader range of terminals, and handle a wider variety of cargoes.
Leveraging a unique business platform
KCC benefits from a strong operational ecosystem through collaboration with the Torvald Klaveness group of companies. This grants us access to scale, experience, and digital innovation in order to deliver superior customer service with one of the most forward-looking fleets in the industry:
Klaveness Dry Bulk is an operator of Panamax and Kamsarmax dry bulk vessels and supports KCC in accessing spot dry cargoes when combination carriers are open in key dry bulk loading areas.
Klaveness Digital offers innovative logistics tools that are actively used by KCC to enhance customer interaction, improve voyage planning, and increase data transparency to help our customers optimize their supply chains in real time.
Klaveness Ship Management AS (now part of OSM Thome) performs ship management and crewing for KCC’s fleet, backed by a strong safety culture and certified under ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 37001, ISO 45001, ISM, ISPS, and MLC standards. The team remains committed to OCIMF’s Tanker Management and Self-Assessment (TMSA) program and continues to manage vessels exclusively for KCC, ensuring continuity and expertise.
