The world’s most carbon efficient deep-sea shipping solution within the tanker and dry bulk segment

A more sustainable alternative

The combination carriers trade in dedicated trade patterns with consecutive switching between dry and wet cargo shipments and minimum ballast between the laden voyages. This means the fleet emits up to 40% less greenhouse gases than standard dry bulk and tanker vessels for the same transport work.

There are no technical or commercial solutions that can reach similar low levels of carbon intensity for deep-sea shipping.

SUSTAINABILITY

We have ambitious targets and are committed to deliver

80-90% of the world’s trade is carried by sea and this remains the most energy efficient way to move goods and raw materials around the world. Still, the shipping industry contributes 2-9% of the world’s emissions of greenhouse gases. In the face of the major climate challenges of our generation, we need to act now.

At Klaveness Combination Carriers, we aim to be a driver in the transition towards low carbon shipping through improving the efficiency throughout everything we do (energy-, trading-, and voyage efficiency), through our newbuild program and through close co-operations with customers, suppliers and other shipowners.

In parallel, we are also preparing for the utilization of new low- and zero-carbon fuels. This includes preparing our newbuilds for later a conversion to burn new zero-emission fuels, and our ambition is that this should be part of our fuel mix within 2030.

FLEET

Our fleet of 16 combination carriers sets new standards for efficient and environmentally friendly shipping

Our fleet consists of eight ‘CABU’ (caustic bulker) and eight CLEANBU (clean bulker) vessels, with three zero-emission fuel prepared CABU vessels joining the fleet from 2026.

All vessels are capable of transporting both dry and wet cargoes.
