CLIMATE CHANGE
A clear focus on reducing emissions
KCC works actively to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from operations. Our combination carrier model provides lower carbon intensity compared to conventional shipping, and we continue to improve this through technical and operational measures.
Our pathway to 2030 and beyond
KCC’s decarbonization strategy targets significant reductions in GHG intensity. Starting from a 2018 baseline of 7.6 gCO2/tNM, our key targets are:
2024
6.4 gCO2/tNM
(13% reduction)
2026
5.3 gCO2/tNM
(30% reduction)
2030
4.1 gCO2/tNM
(46% reduction)
From 2025, KCC will also report emissions on a well-to-wake basis, aligning with evolving industry standards.
We’re not only setting ambitious emissions targets, but building the commercial and operational systems to achieve them. Our internal carbon pricing, investment in retrofit technologies, and design of new vessels prepared with zero-emission fuel readiness are measures to reduce future exposure to regulatory and market shifts. These initiatives are also intended to improve operational resilience and align with customer expectations for low-carbon transport.
Preparing for future fuels
Our new CABU III vessels are designed for future conversion to run on zero-emission fuels like ammonia or methanol. We aim to introduce our first vessel capable of using such fuels before 2030. In the interim, we are preparing to integrate sustainable biofuels, with a target of 15% of the fuel mix by 2030.
