SOCIAL PRIORITIES

?

Health and safety

At Klaveness Combination Carriers (KCC), safety is our first priority. We are committed to ensuring that no one is injured while working for, or with, our business. This includes both shore-based employees and crew at sea. Through close collaboration with our ship management partner OSM Thome, we uphold a strong safety culture supported by a certified Quality Management System (QMS) aligned with ISO and IMO standards.

Our safety program, KLASS (Klaveness Always Safe and Secure), is a comprehensive culture initiative encompassing training, daily routines, and tools such as Stop Work Authority. Safety drills, hazard identification systems, and a learning-based approach to incidents are cornerstones of our health and safety framework.

We continue to invest in safety innovations, including drone-based inspections, navigation support systems, and high-speed onboard connectivity to support both operations and crew welfare.

Human capital

KCC’s success depends on the engagement and capabilities of our people. We promote a culture of trust, learning, and development for all employees. Through structured processes like the Performance, Target and Development (PTD) dialogue and initiatives such as Klaveness Academy and our mentoring program, we aim to support continuous personal and professional growth.

All employees are offered training tailored to their needs, including compliance, feedback culture, and leadership development. For crew, structured onboarding, emergency drills, computer-based training, and regular safety seminars help ensure readiness and reliability at sea.

With a 99% crew retention rate in 2024, we remain focused on specialized training that reflects the unique operational demands of our combination carrier fleet. Our crew retention rate stood above our 90% target, supporting stable operations and reduced onboarding risk.

Human Rights and Labor Rights

KCC is committed to respecting internationally recognized human rights and labor standards. We support the core principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the ILO conventions. For our own workforce and throughout our value chain, we take a clear stance against forced or child labor and require fair wages, safe working conditions, and freedom of association.

For crew, all employment terms meet or exceed collective bargaining agreements. Anonymous debriefings and third-party well-being surveys help us ensure these rights are upheld. KCC is also a member of the Sustainable Shipping Initiative and endorses their Code of Conduct on seafarers’ rights and welfare.

In our value chain, we apply rigorous due diligence through our Know Your Counterparty (KYC) procedures and Counterparty Code of Conduct. We actively assess and follow up on risks related to working conditions, particularly at shipyards, ports, and raw material suppliers.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

KCC is committed to equal opportunity and fair treatment for all irrespective of gender, gender identification, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, disability or social status. This applies to recruitment, promotion, working conditions, and development.

We continue to build on our D&I foundation by promoting mixed candidate pools in hiring, integrating a diversity statement in our QMS, and striving to achieve a balanced 50/50 gender ratio. 50% of new cadet recruits in 2023 and 2024 were women, reflecting our ongoing efforts to support greater gender balance in maritime roles. Through forums like the Klaveness Female Forum and our internal Code of Conduct, we foster respect, teamwork, and zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment.

We believe a diverse and inclusive workplace is not only right but important for enhancing safety, strengthening culture, and improving performance.
